Choose something that fits well, is flattering and something you can move easily in.
Avoid baggy or too-tight clothes.

THINK ABOUT TEXTURES
A mixture of smooth, rough & soft textures can add visual interest (i.e. clothing pieces with different types of fabrics like ribbed + smooth cottons, linens, chunky or soft knits, smooth satin or washable silk, lace, ruffles, corduroy, denim, and suede.
ACCESSORIZE!
Don't be afraid to add jewelry, beanies, suspenders, bows, hats, or pretty muslin, woven, or knit blankets (to keep baby warm or wrap up the whole family in a few shots!)
Layers: Adding a blazer, cardigan, vest, or jacket can also add depth and interest to an outfit.

Black also makes exposure trickier (so try to use sparingly or wear a lighter sweater / jacket over dark black, blue + grey)
